What is Abscess(Boils)?
It is a painful, pus-filled lump that forms under the skin that develops when bacteria infect hair follicles and cause inflammation. The most affected areas are the face, back of the neck, armpits, thighs, and buttocks.
Causes
Abscesses, including boils, are primarily caused by bacterial infections entering the body through cuts, blocked glands, ingrown hairs, or foreign objects.

Prevention
Boils can be prevented by following measures:
- Washing hands with soap
- Cover wounds and keep them clean
- Do not touch skin with unwashed hands
- Avoid sharing personal items
Signs and Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of Abscess(Boil) are:
- Reddish or purplish skin around the boil
- Pain
- Swelling
- Small lump that may enlarge to more than 2 inches
- White pus formation that breaks up and allows the pus to drain out
Treatments
Treatment to alleviate symptoms includes:
Topical antibiotics: Mupirocin
Oral antibiotics: Doxycycline or Cephalexin
